According to a new story from Deadline, a number of well-known actors have signed on to star in Jeff Nichols’ next film, The Bikeriders. Michael Shannon, who has been nominated for two Academy Awards, has joined the ensemble in an unnamed role with Boyd Holbrook (Logan) and Damon Herriman (The Sandman, out now) (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood).
While no new character or plot details were revealed with the announcement of the new cast members, they join Oscar nominee Tom Hardy, who most recently can be seen in Sony’s Venom films as the lead character, Jodie Comer (Free Guy, The Last Duel), and Austin Butler (Elvis).
As The Bikeriders go forward in production, more information regarding the roles and details of the characters will likely be disclosed. Inspired by photographer Danny Lyon’s 1968 book of the same name, which included a picture collection of the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club, the next feature film will be an original plot. The movie will be set in the 1960s and follow a motorcycle club in the Midwest as they go from a friendly group into a dangerous gang over the course of ten years. Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones of Tri-State will produce the film alongside Fred Berger, who will act as executive producer.
Prior to this, Shannon and Nichols worked together on the critically acclaimed psychological thriller Take Shelter.
Both Shannon and Nichols received high marks for their work on the picture. Aside from The Bikeriders, Shannon has future roles in Amsterdam (due out later this year) and The Flash (returning to the role of General Zod he originated in 2013’s Man of Steel). Most recently, Holbrook starred in The Sandman on Netflix, and he will play a mysterious part in the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film.
The Portable Door, starring Sam Neill and Christoph Waltz, and Run Rabbit Run, directed by Daina Reid, both include Herriman, who is most known for his portrayal of Charles Manson in the films Mindhunter and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. No release date has been announced for The Bikeriders as of yet because the film is still in pre-production.
