Updated Stills from “Guillermo del Toro’s Odditorium” Display Scary Props and Real Horrors, Cast, Release Date, Synopsis & More

Since the debut of Netflix’s horror anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities is still more than two months away, the streaming service has opted to give fans a sneak peek at the show by releasing a few of photos. Guillermo Del Toro (The Shape of Water), winner of an Academy Award, will co-showrun and curate the anthology horror series. It will have eight tales that examine various subgenres of horror. Season one, episodes one and two, will premiere in late October, just in time for Halloween. These sneak peeks give viewers their first glimpse at the series’ practical effects, which use make-up, prosthetics, and models to create a realistic and terrifying atmosphere.

This cast has a woman wrapped in what may be melting wax but could perhaps be something else, a mysterious creature with claw-like fingers, and a woodland witch who can blend in with the surrounding woods at night. A stunning production design complements all of this by creating the ideal environment for each episode. For instance, in the “Pickman” episode’s promotional still, we see a cryptic lair with a patterned floor and several illustrations of a scary beast, all of which look like they’re going to burst into flames.

The picture of a stylised, blazing pentagram from episode “Lot 36” hints at a mysterious tale that likely doesn’t shy away from demonic mythology. The anthology film Cabinet of Curiosities will showcase the work of eight indie filmmakers and screenwriters who have made their mark in the horror and thriller genres. Del Toro creates the show and co-show runs it with Oscar winner J. Miles Dale (The Strain). Rupert Grint (Harry Potter films), Nia Vardalos (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), David Hewlett (The Shape of Water), Tim Blake Nelson (Watchmen), Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Crispin Glover (American Gods), Essie Davis (The Babadook), Peter Weller (RoboCop), and Eric AndrĂ© are just a few of the stars who appear in the series (The Righteous Gemstones). Starting with the broadcast of the first two episodes on October 25, Netflix will release a new episode of Cabinet of Curiosities every night through October 28.
