Deadline confirmed that Jessica Harper will play the lead role in Paramount+’s upcoming Fatal Attraction series. Key recurring parts are also planned for newbie Isabella Briggs and veterans John Getz (Doom Patrol) and Toks Olagundoye (Veep), as well as returning cast member David Sullivan (The Wilds). In addition to Lizzy Caplan, Joshua Jackson, Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, and Brian Goodman have already been named as cast members. Harper has starred in dozens of films over the course of two decades, and she’s also a talented vocalist.
Originally from Chicago, she sprang to fame after appearing in Dario Argento’s Susperia, a 1977 Italian spooky drama. After that, she appeared in films like Shock Treatment, a sequel to Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Minority Report, a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise. She has also produced a number of records for kids and authored eleven books for kids in addition to her performing career. Currently, Harper may be seen on the small screens in The Old Man and See. The Fatal Attraction TV show is based on the 1980s film of the same name and will be a remake. Alex (Glenn Close), a book editor and white-collar worker was first portrayed as a dangerous lunatic by the original script.
Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas) played the family guy. Following the conclusion of his romance with Alex, Dan is faced with the responsibility of safeguarding his conventional wife and children from harm. Obviously, it failed to accurately portray mental health or women’s roles in the workplace and has to be redone for a new generation of viewers.
Harper’s role in the reimagining is Sophie, the mother of Beth (Peet), who is described as “a dryly sarcastic New England transplant who loves her daughter and granddaughter and enjoys a drink” by Deadline. The following actors have been cast in recurring roles on the show: Briggs plays Stella, who is “joyfully effervescent with pleasant feelings,” while Sullivan plays prosecutor Frank Gallardo and Getz plays Beth’s father Warren.
Showrunner/Executive Producer/Co-Writer Alexandra Cunningham and Kevin J. Hynes. Amblin Television presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also serve as executive producers. The excellent performers who have already been confirmed as part of the cast ensure that this will be a worthwhile production. I’m crossing my fingers that this updated version of the classic will have fewer problems but the same level of excitement.
