Are you curious about the type of woman Herman Munster (Jeff Daniel Phillips) is seeking for? Rob Zombie has got you covered, then. The forthcoming The Munsters feature film’s director posted an Instagram video in which he addresses this question. The huge, semi-clumsy man is actually hunting for a “vision” and a “queen,” as it were, like something out of Frankenstein. He’s done with the single life and dating honey babies and is now prepared to settle down with a special someone & start a family.
Herman considers himself a “country lad” at heart who is searching for “the one.” And it seems like Lily, his future bride in The Munsters, will provide him with all of these things and more (Sheri Moon Zombie). The film written and directed by Zombie will serve as a backstory for the monster family that initially gained fame in the 1960s CBS series of the same name. Many of us watched black-and-white reruns of the programme with parents and grandparents who saw the sitcom when it first aired, but the prequel will be in full colour, giving the show’s ghoulish characters and the town of Transylvania a fresh lease of life.
Zombie’s ’60s-style animations and colours illustrate the early stages of the “biggest love tale of all time” in the Herman-centered teaser. In addition to Moon Zombie and Phillips, the film also features Daniel Roebuck as Lily’s father The Count (also known as Grandpa), Cassandra Peterson as real estate agent Barbara Carr, Jorge Garcia as Floop, Richard Brake as Dr Henry Augustus Wolfgang, and original cast members Butch Patrick (The Tin Can Man) and Pat Priest (in an undisclosed role).
As if to prove that he is the perfect person to direct the picture, Zombie is resurrecting the one-episode wonder character Zombo, demonstrating his extensive knowledge of the Munsters. Since last autumn, when he started releasing set design pictures and costume ideas on his social media accounts, the director of House of 1000 Corpses has been quite forthcoming about the project. Ever since then, he’s been quite transparent about the film’s cast and promotional materials like posters and trailers.
After today’s Herman-focused short, we’re guessing that Lily and maybe even Grandpa will get their own version of the same kind of highlight video soon. On September 27, The Munsters will be released on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital, with a Netflix premiere date to be announced at a later time.
