Fathom Events and Lionsgate have announced a wider theatrical distribution of Kevin Smith’s highly anticipated sequel, Clerks III. Smith revealed on Twitter that the film would also be shown in theatres on September 13, 15, 20, and 22. This is in addition to the initial announcement that Fathom and Lionsgate will distribute the film on September 13 and 15. The extended theatrical run of Clerks III (now on September 14, 16, 17, and 18) is unusually long for a Fathom release, lasting nearly a full week. In reference to the new location, Smith has stated, “I guarantee you, we’re open!” We’d like to extend our gratitude to Lionsgate and Fathom for allowing us to show Clerks III for an extra weekend.
Also, a huge “thank you” to everyone who has already purchased tickets for our Fathom events. Thank you very much for all the advance orders; they’ve made it possible for us to expand. The initial two dates, which occurred throughout the week, sold out quickly, so Lionsgate and Fathom Events scheduled further showings. All showings will start at 7:00 PM local time and will include a special featurette featuring interviews with the film’s cast and crew. Most of the cast from the original two Clerks films will return for the third film, and it will focus on fan favourite Randal (Jeff Anderson), who suffers an existential crisis after a heart attack leaves him feeling like he has accomplished nothing.
In the next instalment, Randal recruits his closest friends to help him make a documentary on his time working at Quick Stop, the fictional convenience store that has been central to the Clerks films since the first film in 1994. Many of the original cast members from the first two films, including Anderson, Brian O’Halloran, Trevor Fehrman, Jason Mewes, Rosario Dawson, Marilyn Ghigliotti, and Kevin Smith, will be back for the third instalment. Produced by Smith, Liz Destro, and Jordan Monsanto, Smith also serves as writer and director for Clerks III.
Along with Ben Affleck and Fred Armisen, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Amy Sedaris, and Justin Long round out the cast. Even though Kevin Smith’s stardom has faded from the public eye, he still has devoted followers. Smith’s View Askew Universe is a shared canon of characters that spans his most recent works, such as the 2019 remake of Jay and Silent Bob that was distributed by Fathom and earned the year’s second highest per-screen average thanks to its touring roadshow distribution.
More than 700 theatres around the country have already committed to showing Clerks III, and the hype surrounding the picture suggests it will be even more popular than the original. Pre-sale tickets for the upcoming theatrical release of Clerks III are available now on FathomEvents. The film will play in select theatres from September 13 through September 18.
