Invitation to a Bonfire, an upcoming psychological thriller on AMC, features two new cast members. “heavily recurring parts” have been announced for Jamie Neumann (Lovecraft Country) and Amy Darton (Sleeping Beauty). The debut of the show on AMC is scheduled for 2019. The deadline was the first to break the casting news, and they also announced that Emmy-nominated director Cherien Dabis (Only Murders In The Building) will helm episodes one and two of the upcoming six-part series.
Freya Mavor plays Zoya, a young Russian immigrant in the 1930s who works as the groundskeeper at the Donne School in New Jersey, and the series is based on the 2018 psychological thriller novel of the same name by Adrienne Celt, which was inspired by the co-dependent marriage of author Vladimir Nabokov and Vera Nabokov. The cast will also include Ngozi Anyanwu. Neumann will play Nadine, a lady from the countryside who now works at the Donne School.
Nadine, a former student at the boarding school who grew up in the Appalachian region and attended the school on a scholarship, is a complete mystery to the present students. Daphne, played by Darton, is the “unquestioned queen” of the school because of her affluent upbringing. Daphne may be the ruler of the female students at her school, but she has very little authority on her own. Maslany will be a co-executive producer alongside Robin Schwartz and Kyle Laursen, in addition to playing a lead part. Carolyn Daucher is joining the team as a producer.
Neumann has been in a number of TV shows before, including Lovecraft Country, The Deuce, and Atlanta. Darton has been mentioned in connection with both Sleeping Beauty and Invisible. Dabis has worked on shows including Ozark on Netflix and fellow Hulu comedy Ramy, for which he received a nomination for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series. The premiere date of Invitation to a Bonfire on AMC in 2019 has not yet been announced. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, starring Maslany, will debut on Disney+ on August 17.
