Mr Harrigan’s Phone, based on one of Stephen King’s more recent stories, will be released on Netflix later this year, and King has just stated that he has seen a version of the film, giving it his stamp of approval and giving Netflix and director John Lee Hancock high marks. In a tweet, King said, “I have seen a close-to-finished version of MR. HARRIGAN’S PHONE, written & directed by John Lee Hancock, & it’s nothing short of fantastic.” The film is slated to release this autumn.
It stars Donald Sutherland and Jaeden Martell. Netflix. This next autumn.” Historically, the legendary horror writer’s approval has not been given to every film or television version of his work (looking at you, The Shining). Fans of King’s work may now look forward with anticipation to the release of a horrifying new film based on King’s writing, according to the author’s support of the impending Netflix movie. Based on a tale originally published in the 2020s If It Bleeds, Mr Harrigan’s Phone is about a little child who becomes close with Mr Harrigan before his untimely death.
The small child, however, quickly learns that he may continue talking to Mr Harrigan, who passed away, via the phone, he buried with him. The extent to which the film will adhere to the source material is yet unknown, but details are sure to emerge as the film’s release date nears. The Life of Chuck, Rat, and the collection’s namesake, If It Bleeds, are a few of the other short pieces included. In the wake of Mr Harrigan’s Phone publication, Netflix purchased the film rights, and Blumhouse is now attached as producer.
Mr Harrigan’s Phone is presently in production, and its success might lead to adaptations of the other stories in If It Bleeds. Several other projects based on King’s writing are in process, so it wouldn’t be surprising if more followed. This adaptation of King’s work features Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games) as Mr Harrigan and Jaeden Martell (It), who previously acted in another King adaptation. The film is set to premiere on Netflix this autumn. The film also features Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Sandman) and Joe Tippett (Rise). No definite date has been determined for the publication of Mr Harrington’s Phone.
