Adding to the already announced Kathryn Hahn and Quentin Plair for Hulu’s Tiny Beautiful Things are newbie Tanzyn Crawford and Sarah Pidgeon of The Wilds, according to Deadline. Aside from Liz Tigelaar’s writing and directing, Rachel Lee Goldenberg will helm the pilot and episode two. Based on the blockbuster novel by Cheryl Strayed, this half-hour series will follow Claire (Hahn), who reluctantly takes on the role of anonymous advice columnist while her own life unravels. To play the role of a younger, more rebellious and sharp-tongued Claire who behaves recklessly following her mother’s death, Pidgeon will use her considerable acting chops.
However, she manages to treat her younger brother, Lucas, like her own child. Rae Kincade, the lesbian adolescent daughter of Claire and Danny (Plair), and an observer of their marital turmoil will be played by Crawford, a newcomer to the acting scene. She is conflicted between an artistic bent and an introverted disposition. The series will use several timelines to show us that we may be saved by listening to and sharing our own experiences, as we follow Claire’s tale. Gotham (2014) and One Dollar (2018) are among Pidgeon’s credits, although she is perhaps best recognised for her role as Leah Rilke in the cancelled Amazon Prime series The Wilds (2020). The plot of the show revolves around a group of young girls who crash land on an island.
The group learns that they were not victims of a random plane crash but rather participants in a sociological experiment as they struggle to stay alive in the woods and with one another. Pidgeon’s portrayal of Leah, a girl who starts off as an outcast in Berkley but becomes a brave survivor on the island, was nothing short of spectacular. Season 1 was well received by fans and reviewers alike, however, Season 2 was panned for shifting the focus away from the female characters and onto a bunch of guys also stuck on the island.
Even though it had been planned as a four-season arc, the streamer decided to cancel the show after only 2 seasons. Recent projects for the star of the HBO series Private Life include voicing Doc Ock in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and playing Agatha Harkness in Marvel’s WandaVision. As Ericka Van Helsing, she has also been a consistent presence in the Hotel Transylvania series. The HBO Max comedy series Minx just had its pilot and subsequent episodes directed by Goldenberg.
There is currently no official release date for Tiny Beautiful Things.
