The late English-American actor Cary Grant was not only one of the most iconic figures to grace Hollywood from the 1930s through the mid-1960s, but he is also remembered fondly for his distinctive Mid-Atlantic accent. The four-part drama series Archie, starring Harry Potter’s Jason Isaacs, is based on the life of the Bristol native and Hollywood legend.
The late actor’s life is being portrayed by Oscar Isaacs, who is most known for playing pure-blooded wizard Lucius Malfoy in all eight Harry Potter films.
The actor once claimed, “There was only one Cary Grant, and I’d never be dumb enough to try to walk into his renowned shoes.” “Jeff’s superb writings bring to life his tireless effort to overcome the demons that haunted him, his obsessive desire for control, his anxieties, his vulnerabilities, his loves, and his losses. Not a myth, but a man’s life is being chronicled here, and I for one can’t wait to put myself in his shoes. Streaming on ITV and BritBox International, the upcoming biopic series will tell the story of the UK-born actor’s humble beginnings as Archibald Alec Leach, who grew up in absolute poverty, trying to make ends meet until he moved to the United States and became one of Hollywood’s definitive leading men.
In addition to Grant’s career in the movies, the show will focus on his troubled personal life, including his two failed marriages and subsequent retirement. The late actor made his cinema debut in crime flicks like Blonde Venus (1932) and She Done Him Wrong (1933). Fans of romantic comedies like The Awful Truth, His Girl Friday, The Philadelphia Story, and Bringing Up Baby, in which he co-starred with Katharine Hepburn, were especially taken with his comedic timing, which earned him widespread acclaim.
Most of the films where the actor starred were acknowledged as being among the finest comedy pictures of all time. Dramas like Only Angels Have Wings, Penny Serenade, and None but the Lonely Heart, for which he was nominated an Academy Award for Best Actor, show that the actor is capable of taking on a wide range of characters. The planned biography is produced by ITV Studios in partnership with co-production partner BritBox International. Rebecca Hodgson will serve as producer, and Grant’s daughter Jennifer Grant and ex-wife Dyan Cannon will serve as executive producers.
