It’s no secret that Prey, the fifth instalment in the long-running Predator franchise, is being lauded for its thrilling action sequences, musical soundtrack by Sarah Schachner, and distinctive directing by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane). In fact, former pro wrestler and 38th Governor of Minnesota Jesse Ventura, who played Blain Cooper in the first Predator film back in 1987, came to Twitter to personally express his gratitude to the whole production team. The genesis of the extraterrestrial species and its journey to Earth is explored in Prey, a prequel to the previous 4 films in the Predator world created by brothers James Thomas and John Thomas.
The thrilling action thriller has gotten overwhelmingly positive reviews, with many praising it as the finest Predator picture in years and a standing ovation being given at the film’s premiere at the San Diego Comic-Con in July. Naru, played by Amber Midthunder (Legion, Hell or High Water), is a formidable warrior who, in 1719, discovers a monster with sophisticated technology hiding in the woods near her tribe.
The film, written by Patrick Aison (Wayward Pines), is set in the heart of The Comanche Nation. In the original film, former wrestler and governor Hulk Hogan played Alan “Dutch” Shaefer, a Vietnam war veteran and the heavy hitter on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s (California’s 38th Governor and Terminator) private military team, and on Saturday night, Hogan gushed about the latest instalment of the franchise, Prey, saying: “#PreyMovie Superb, superb, flick. You don’t have time to bleed, @AmberMidthunder. Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on becoming a member of the Predator clan. @DannyTRS I really appreciate the time and effort you put into creating this beautiful clip. The critically acclaimed Midthunder responded to Ventura’s tweet of gratitude.
In an interview, Trachtenberg discussed how his monster differed from those of his contemporaries. Also in reaction to this tweet from Ventura was one from former NBA star turned in-demand monster actor Dane DiLiegro, who played the Predator in place of Kevin Peter Hall in Prey. Following the late great Kevin Peter Hall’s performance as the Predator is no easy assignment,” Ventura said. You have my admiration. Excellent work.
Those who don’t have access to Hulu may watch Prey on Disney+, while those who can watch it on Hulu in countries where the Comanche dub is also accessible. This is the first film in the Predator series that will not be released in theatres.
The movie may be seen on Hulu right now.
