Actor Skeet Ulrich, best known for his role on Riverdale, has signed on to feature in the new drama series The Driver. Giancarlo Esposito, a former AMC actor, will play Ulrich’s co-star in AMC’s version of the British drama series of the same name. AMC and AMC+ will air the series in 2023. In addition to confirming Ulrich’s role as Colin, a former acquaintance of the series’ protagonist Vince (played by Esposito), Deadline first broke the news of Ulrich’s hiring. Ian Hart performed this character in the original 3-part series that aired in 2014. Esposito, Paula Malcomson, Bonnie Mbuli, and Zackary Momoh had already been cast when Ulrich was added.
Actor Momoh will portray a known Zimbabwean mobster who hires Esposito to drive him about New Orleans. His life takes an unexpected turn when he is recruited to transport the legendary gangster. Danny Brocklehurst and Sunu Gonera, the minds behind the original series’ conception with Jim Poyser, are also working on this version. Gonera is not only the show’s creator, but he has also directed episodes of Snowfall on FX and Raised By Wolves on HBO. The proposed six-episode series’ pilot will be directed by Gonera. Antoine Fuqua produced the Emmy-winning short series #Freerayshawn, which starred Ulrich in a leading role as FP Jones on Riverdale.
Aside from Herbert James Winterstern’s Supercell (his feature film directorial debut), Brad Anderson’s psychological thriller Blood (in which he will star with Michelle Monaghan), and Mackenzie Munro’s dramatic thriller Salvation, Ulrich has a long list of upcoming projects (also her feature film directorial debut). In addition to Esposito, Gonera, and Brocklehurst, Josh Kesselman and Danny Sherman of Thruline Entertainment and Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson of A+E Studios are executive producers on AMC’s The Driver, with Billions and Power writer Theo Travers serving as showrunner. Thruline Entertainment is producing the series in conjunction with AMC Studios and A+E Studios.
