Historical pirate comedy Our Flag Means Death, on HBO Max, has a loyal following that has been waiting for news of Stede Bonnet’s (Rhys Darby) return in the impending second season. This teaser for Season 2’s premiere screenplay was published by series creator and writer David Jenkins. A snapshot of the cover page of the first episode’s screenplay was shared on Jenkins’ official Twitter account. The episode’s title has been redacted by Jenkins, so only the show’s name, episode number, and Jenkins’ credit are visible on the website, despite how intriguing that might seem.
When it comes to the post, the most intriguing part is the caption, which might indicate huge changes for Season 2 of the show. The caption says: “Are there any willing participants? Just because it’s already occurring.” It is largely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, the Gentleman Pirate, and takes place on a pirate ship during the Golden Age. The Revenge, the ship of Captain Barbossa Bonnet and his unusual crew, encounters several notable people of the historical period, including Edward Teach aka Blackbeard, played by Taika Waititi, as they sail across the Caribbean Sea.
Waititi, along with co-executive producers Jenkins, Garrett Basch, and Dan Halsted, is also a member of the show’s cast as well as an executive producer. Darby and Waititi are joined by a cast that includes Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Joel Fry, Matt Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, and Rory Kinnear and Samba Schutte. There’s no word yet from HBO Max on which of the supporting cast members will be returning for Season 2, but we do know that Guz Khan, who portrayed Blackbeard’s crewman Ivan before, will not be. While the release date for Season 2 of Our Flag Means Death has not yet been confirmed, all of Season 1’s episodes are already available for streaming on HBO Max.
