When director Justin Lin abruptly left the Fast & Furious family due to disagreements with series star Vin Diesel, the franchise was astonished. With Lin’s departure, it was going to be a challenge to fill the void that he left behind, since he had directed five films in the franchise beginning with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Leterrier will helm Fast X, according to Michelle Rodriguez, one of its long-time stars and one of its best directors.
High-octane action pictures and summer blockbusters are nothing new for Leterrier. Before Mark Ruffalo became the MCU’s Hulk in the MCU, he worked behind the camera on the Jason Statham-led The Transporter and the box office smash The Incredible Hulk.
In addition, he directed Now You See Me, a star-studded thriller that was released in 2013, although he has since opted for television, directing episodes of Lupin and The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Because of this, his Fast and the Furious credentials are greatly enhanced because of his love for the series. Promoting his part in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter that “He’s so awesome, man” in an interview at Comic-Con for the movie. At first, Rodriguez confessed, the film’s creative team was a little confused without Lin.
After Leterrier’s arrival, however, the production was given a fresh lease of life by the actress, who said of him: He arrived brimming up with affection. The last time it happened in Fast and Furious was a long time ago, and I was a true fan who wanted to see it go further. My brother, we’ve been at this for twenty years. Until a filmmaker like Louis comes along and says, ‘This is lovely,’ you lose sight of why you do what you do after all that time. What are we going to do now?’ What a blessing he is to have in our midst, my brother.
This film is “the French Fast & Furious,” according to Rodriguez, because Leterrier has enlisted a crew of fellow French nationals to work on it.
That’s not all: She said that “Our special effects crew, the guys who are performing the battles, they’re all French. French is the second AD we have. The director of our company is French. In a way, it’s like a French takeover. Despite the changes made by the new director, Fast X will still have Lin’s imprint. Along with Dan Mazeau, he is still a producer on board, along with Diesel and Neal Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Samantha Vincent; he also wrote the script. After their first appearances in Fast 9, Cardi B and Michael Rooker are scheduled to return in Fast X, which includes the return of Diesel and Rodriguez as well as Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordan Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Scott Eastwood, and Charlize Theron.
All of Jason Momoa’s co-stars will be making their on-screen debuts in the upcoming action comedy Carpool Karaoke. The film’s details have been scant, but it is hurtling toward an ultimate finish for the saga with one more movie. On May 19, 2023, Fast X will be released in cinemas near you.
