Almost a decade after its release, the Attack the Block sequel is finally going ahead. The 2011 release of this sci-fi comedy was met with instant acclaim and went on to garner a slew of accolades. John Boyega, one of the film’s stars, recently gave fans a first peek at the script for the long-awaited sequel, which has been in the works for years. A sequel to Attack the Block has in production, the actor recently disclosed at the world premiere of Nope. The cover page of the film’s screenplay has finally been given by the actor, as promised. There is nothing more on the official website other than the title “Attack the Block 2”. In any case, this is still encouraging news.
For fans of the original film, the news that a script for the sequel has finally been completed is a welcome development. Attack the Block’s inventiveness, character development, and innovative approach to the sci-fi genre quickly made it stand out. At its heart, the picture was about a group of kids battling extraterrestrial invaders in their South London neighbourhood. Anthology films are praised for their originality and societal criticism. Among the many positive aspects of the picture, the cast was one of the most impressive. Many of the actors in the cast have gone on to be well-known in the sci-fi community. As Finn in the Star Wars series, Franz Drameh portrayed Jefferson Jackson in the CW’s Arrowverse, and Jodie Whittaker is best known for her role as the Thirteenth Doctor in the Doctor Who franchise.
There were many others in the cast besides Boyega, Drameh, and Whittaker: Nick Frost, Alex Esmail, Leeon Jones, Simon Howard, and so on He went on to helm Ant-Man and The Kid Who Would Be King, both of which he co-wrote the screenplay for, respectively. Cornish is also returning for the follow-up. Other than Cornish and Boyega, no one else from the first film will be returning for the sequel. Nevertheless, this is to be expected, given that the film is still in its early stages of development. As a follow-up to his breakout role in Attack the Block, Boyega will also appear in Breaking, The Woman King, and They Cloned Tyrone; nonetheless, the sequel is a welcome addition to his body of work.
