Amazon Freevee’s second original film, Post Malone: Runaway, has a release date and a new trailer, Variety reports. Runaway Tour, his first ever arena tour, is the subject of a one-hour-long music documentary to be aired in 2019. Exclusive backstage video and interviews from the 37-date North American tour will be featured in the special. One and a half minutes into the trailer, we get snippets of backstage footage, Malone having a blast on stage while performing to his father, who says he was an “eccentric kid, always creative.” Sam Bridger and Casey Engelhardt wrote and produced the musical documentary, which was made by BAFTA-nominated Hector Dockrill. “I already knew Post Malone was a force before going on tour,” the London-based filmmaker stated while discussing the musician.
When I had the opportunity to spend time with him in an unfiltered and intimate setting, I soon recognised that he is unlike anything the world has ever seen before. “He’s a polymath, he’s devoted to his work, and he’s a rock star.” As a performer, touring with Austin Richard Post is like experiencing all of your emotions at once. It’s dramatic and crazy, and our idea was to bring people into the experience just enough to catch a glimpse of this while leaving the rest to their imagination. Stoney’s debut studio album, Stoney, achieved a record for the most weeks on the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list in 2016 with the song Congratulations.
Next, Beerbongs & Bentley’s album landed at number one on US Billboard 200 and was nominated for a Grammy. Since the beginning of his spectacular career, Malone has been nominated for and won ten Billboard Music Awards, one MTV Video Music Award, and three American Music Awards. In addition to Federal Film, Pulse Film is behind the music documentary. “Post Malone is a once-in-a-generation musician,” says Sam Bridger, head of music films at Pulse Films. A musician who has continually resisted classification and chosen his own creative direction. It has been an honour for Pulse Films to collaborate with Post Malone and his crew and record label to film this historical tour.” Runaway by Post Malone premieres on Freevee on August 12th.
