Just in time for the last episode of season 1 to premiere on AMC+ tonight, AMC Networks has announced that the sci-fi drama Moonhaven has been renewed for a second season. The first season of Moonhaven, which was created by Peter Ocko (Lodge 49, Black Sails, Elementary, Pushing Daisies), will have six episodes and will be broadcast on AMC+ on August 4. AMC+ will air the second season, which will include six episodes, sometime in 2023. This month, Moonhaven has surpassed Dark Winds as the most popular new show on Hulu and the number one most viewed exclusive series in Hulu history since its debut.
“Peter has done an amazing job with this series, which is full of intrigue and entertainment value. As the head of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, Dan McDermott remarked, “The plot is compelling, controversial, and predictive; it includes a superb ensemble that gives fascinating performances. Fans will be ecstatic about what Peter and the crew have in store for them in season two.
At some point in the future, a utopian Moon colony is established, named Moonhaven. Emma McDonald, well known for her role as Bella Sway in Queens of Mystery, stars in the series as a lunar cargo pilot and smuggler who finds herself stranded on the station & accused of a crime she didn’t commit.
The Moonhaven is a research facility dedicated to discovering a solution to a global disaster that would inevitably terminate civilisation as we know it on Earth. Sway is entangled in a scheme to steal the artificial intelligence that powers Moonhaven’s marvels while stranded aboard the station. Dominic Monaghan (Lost) plays a local detective named Paul Serno, with whom they team up to confront the forces bent on eradicating humanity’s final hope for existence. Additionally, Ocko acts as co-executive producer with Deb, as well as the series showrunner. Spera Moonhaven is a production of AMC Studios and an original AMC+ series.
Amara Karan, Ayelet Zurer, Joe Manganiello, Kadeem Hardison, and Yazzmin Newell join McDonald and Monaghan in the utopian drama, which also stars Amara Karan from Doctor Who and Ayelet Zurer from Losing Alice (The Last Tree). According to Ocko, he was “ecstatic” at the prospect of returning to the Moon and continuing the story with the current cast and crew. When it comes to making our universe come to life, “AMC+ has been a tremendous collaborator.” The season 1 conclusion of Moonhaven will premiere on August 4th, after tonight’s last episode on AMC+. It will be in 2023 that the second season of the utopian drama series will be shown.
