Perri Nemiroff interviewed the What We Do in the Shadows cast at San Diego Comic-Con just two weeks after the Season 4 premiere of the show. They discussed Guillermo’s (Harvey Guillén) near-constant wish to be turned into a vampire by Nandor, the ambitious Night Market scene, and the eerie baby Colin Robinson (Kayvan Novak). Guillermo had hoped since the beginning of the series that Nandor will be kind to his familiar and transform him into a vampire. It seemed increasingly unlikely that his master would ever decide to convert Guillermo after learning that he is a direct descendant of Van Helsing.
Nevertheless, Guillermo never gives up hope that one day he will be transformed. As Nandor embarks on his quest to find a wife in season four, he encounters a snag after a smart djinn grants one of his wishes with an unexpected twist worthy of Guillermo del Toro. In response to Nemiroff’s question on whether or not the familiar would ever quit desiring to be a vampire, Guillén clarified, saying: No, I doubt he’s reached that stage yet. My mind wanders to Benji every time he feels disheartened by how the familiars look at him. Benji never became a vampire and was mesmerised into forgetting his past. He’s taking matters into his own hands because things aren’t going according to plan. As a result, getting what you desire is sometimes as simple as taking a new path. So, either that’s what happens or he just gives up.
The problem is that it seems like he’ll never want to give up his status as an undead creature of the night. I believe he has a compelling rationale for wanting to do that. They’re just stunning.
