HBO Max is upgrading all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. Fans will be able to enjoy a cinematic viewing experience with the programme when it is released on Netflix in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos early next month. Despite the lack of a specific release date, fans may look forward to returning to Westeros just in time for the highly anticipated prequel series House of the Dragon to premiere on August 21. Customers will have to pay $14.99 per month for HBO Max’s ad-free tier instead of $9.99 for the ad-supported tier in order to get the full benefit of the Game of Thrones visual update.
The series is currently available in the upgraded form via stores and Vudu, but a complete box set would cost over $150, making this the best option to see the whole thing on a budget. After all, Warner Bros. has stated that not only will they be releasing the original series in 4K, but they’ll also be releasing House of the Dragon in 4K as well. HBO Max has never shown a series in 4K, but considering the anticipation around the show, there is no better time to give it a go.
The latest trailer for House of the Dragon shows big action sequences and gorgeous vistas of dragons, so it makes sense to make the film look as nice as possible for the initial impression it will have on moviegoers. Since its debut in 2011, the show has been a mainstay of HBO’s programming lineup. For seven years, The Walking Dead was a must-see television series for millions of people, despite its tainted image due to a confusing conclusion. In its run, it addressed a wide range of themes, including the struggle for power and the war to preserve Westeros from an ancient evil that has lain dormant for millennia.
After a civil war breaks out within House Targaryen over who would accede to the throne, the events of House of the Dragon take place years before those of its predecessor. A range of additional promotions, including an augmented reality game where you may grow your own dragon like a true Targaryen, has been used by HBO to assure the success of the prequel series. In anticipation of the upcoming season, Duo the Owl from Duolingo has risen to the Iron Throne to educate viewers about High Valyrian. This August, both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones will be available in 4K.
