For those eagerly awaiting the series’ arrival on Disney Plus in early 2024, author Rick Riordan has said that development is presently underway and he expects the show to premiere in early 2024. A particular release date wasn’t given, although the author did note that the studio and streaming provider will ultimately decide. While a release date has been set for the series, Riordan has also given some updates on filming, which is expected to go until December or January. “Though we still have a long way to go before this series is ready, we are on schedule and following our strategy. Principal photography for 1o1 (season one/episode one) and 102 (a big amount of the filming for 102) has been completed, but the raw jigsaw pieces will still need to be fitted together with soundtrack, special effects, and editing to produce a final product.
Actresses Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood are all set to feature in the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians. On top of that, the cast will include actors like Virginia Kull, Jason Mantzoukas, and Timm Sharp, among others. It follows 12-year-old Percy Jackson as he sets out to recover Zeus’ lightning bolt following the events of the series’ first novel, The Lightning Thief, which served as the inspiration for the show’s first season. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, a 2010 film adaptation of the series that was moderately successful at the box office but panned by fans for deviating from the original material, was a moderate box office success.
One more film in the series, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters, would follow before any further ideas for a franchise were shelved. Riordan is confident in the show’s future now that Disney+ has commissioned a fresh version, and he promises a huge payout after years of anticipation. According to the author, he or she added: It’s been a long time since we’ve done anything like this, even for our most seasoned and experienced team members. Uncountable numbers of sets have been produced. Special effects that need a lot of work. The show’s young stars take the lead. Everything takes some time. It’ll be worth it, but you’ll have to be patient. That much I am certain of.
The release date for Percy Jackson and the Olympians is still up in the air.
