A new shot from the forthcoming historical comedy Catherine, Called Birdy has been revealed in conjunction with the announcement that it will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Girls creator and actress Lena Dunham will write and direct the new film, which stars Game of Thrones breakthrough Bella Ramsey. When the film debuts on September 23, it will be available to stream on Prime Video beginning October 7. The 1994 novel Catherine, Called Birdy by Karen Cushman served as the inspiration for the film adaptation. “Birdy” is Lady Catherine (Ramsey), a character in the film.
An entire family is on the verge of bankruptcy because of her. Birdy’s father begins making arrangements to marry his daughter off to a wealthy suitor in return for money and land in order to maintain his social position. Birdy, on the other hand, being the independent and resourceful young lady she is, begins hatching her own schemes to avoid being married off. Birdy is depicted in a less-than-ladylike light in the most recent photograph released. Our first impression of her is that she is filthy and covered in rips and ragged clothing.
Despite this, she’s beaming from ear to ear. It’s hard to picture the mayhem she’s causing in this particular situation. Ramsey is most recognised for her Game of Thrones role as Lyanna Mormont, the head of House Mormont. It has been announced that she will also be appearing in the highly anticipated TV series adaption of “The Last of Us.” Billie Piper, Joe Alwyn, and Andrew Scott will all appear in Catherine, Called Birdy. It was written and directed by Dunham, who co-wrote it. Her past works include Sharp Stick and Creative Nonfiction, and the Emmy-winning series Girls. In addition to starring in and directing the aforementioned films, Dunham has also directed many episodes of her own television series.
Girls earned her two Emmy nominations, the second time for directing. On September 23, Catherine, Called Birdy will be released in cinemas, and on October 7, it will be made accessible on Prime Video.
The following is the official plot summary for the film:
It is 1290. Lady Catherine (also known as Birdy) is the youngest child of Lord Rollo and Lady Aislinn in the mediaeval English hamlet of Stonebridge. Stonebridge Manor, a dilapidated mansion that resembles the family, is her favourite place to play. It is Rollo’s hope that his daughter would marry a wealthy landowner, who will provide him with both money and land, in order to save him from financial collapse. Birdy, on the other hand, is energetic, intelligent, and adventurous, and she’s ready to fend off any suitor who comes knocking with ever-more inventive methods, as is the case with all great adolescent heroines. A combination of her stubbornness, inventiveness, and profound belief in her own right to freedom set her on a collision path with her parents. Their love for their daughter is put to the ultimate test when a repulsive suitor comes.
