The Summer I Turned Pretty, a coming-of-age romantic story that premiered on Prime Video in June, instantly became a fan favourite. Even before the first season aired, the streaming service chose to extend the show for a second season. It has now been confirmed by the show’s producers that Season 2 has commenced production! The official Twitter account for the show made the news via a tweet. There is a photo of Lola Tung and author Jenny Han together in the post, which states “and we’re rolling on season 2,” accompanied by “and we’re rolling on season 2.” On Prime Video’s Instagram account, the identical photo was shared with the message, “We are back in Cousins Beach! The second season has begun.”
When it comes to the fans, it’s almost too much to bear that the second season of a popular show has already begun filming so soon after its premiere. There was a 2009 novel by Han that inspired the first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. In the fictional Cape Cod beach town of Cousins Beach, a little girl named “Belly” (Tung) and her family always spend the summer at a lovely beach home. Aside from her mother’s closest friend’s two kids, there are several other males vying for her attention this summer, and she’s not sure which one she’ll settle on.
If “It’s Not Summer Without You,” the second book in the series, is any indication, Season 2 will start up the following summer with even more drama and romance to grab viewers, and it’s likely that the showrunners will follow that lead. For Netflix’s first original series, Han adapted To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and its two sequels, which proved a hit with viewers and helped launch the careers of actors like Lana Condor and Noah Centineo. She was also the showrunner of the series, thus she had more hands-on involvement in this version. Jackie Chung, Rachel Blanchard, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman, and Alfredo Narciso also feature in The Summer I Turned Pretty. It is currently possible to watch the first season of The Summer I Turned Pretty on Prime Video.
