Copenhagen Cowboy, a new drama series from Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn, is set to premiere on Netflix this fall, Deadline reports. If you’re looking for something that’s going to get you pumped up, you’re going to want to check this one out. A female heroine named Miu will go into the criminal underbelly of Copenhagen in the upcoming series. It is Refn’s first film production in Denmark in more than a decade, and Netflix’s first foray into original programming.
The Neon Demon and Too Old to Die Young, an Amazon Prime neo-noir crime drama starring Miles Teller and Augusto Aguilera, are just a few of the director’s notable credits. “With Copenhagen Cowboy, I am returning to my past to build my future by producing a series, an enlargement of my always shifting alter-egos, now in the guise of my young heroine, Miu,” stated Refn of the project. According to him, this might be the beginning of a long-term cooperation with Netflix. A very amazing experience on all levels, working with Netflix on the creation of this show. They are not only my companions in this journey, but also my friends with whom I want to have many more experiences in the future. Netflix Winding Refn” has been coined.
Sara Isabella Jonsson, Johanne Algren, and Mona Masri collaborated on the script for Copenhagen Cowboy. Netflix will release the six-episode series later this year after it was completed in Denmark. Director of Nordic Original Series Jenny Stjernströmer Björk expressed her delight at working with the Danish director: “We are absolutely thrilled to finally be able to announce that we have partnered with Nicolas Winding Refn, one of Denmark’s most acclaimed filmmakers, and are returning him to Denmark for producing a local Danish show after more than fifteen years abroad.” Miu is played by Angela Bundalovic in the series.
After appearing in Netflix’s successful Danish series The Rain, she is presently appearing in Limboland, a lighthearted comedy-drama. Additionally, Winding Refn’s long-time partner Zlatko Buric, who played Milo, a Serbian drug kingpin in all three Pusher films, will appear in the series. Andreas Lykke Jorgsen and Jason Hendil-Forssell will join Lola Corfixen, the director’s daughter, as well as Dragana Milutinovic, Mikael Bertelsen & Mads Brügger in the cast. NWR Originals’ Lene Borglum and Christina Erritzoe are behind the show’s production. Copenhagen Cowboy’s premiere date has yet to be confirmed by Netflix.
