An animated series adaptation of the popular comic book series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur has premiered at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. While Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur isn’t a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the trailer shows how the superhero genre might benefit from some new blood. Super-genius 13-year-old Lunella Lafayette (voiced by Diamond White) will be the star of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which will follow her exploits as she builds all kinds of gravity-defying devices. With the help of the titular Devil Dinosaur (voiced by Fred Tatasciore), she learns of a parallel universe in which ancient animals still wander free.
Lunella and DD have a lifelong friendship, using Lunella’s intellect and DD’s brawn to fight crime and supervillains in New York City. The programme will also focus on Lunella’s connection with her family, which includes her mother Adria (Sasheer Zamata), her father James Jr. (Jermaine Fowler), and her grandparents Mimi (Alfre Woodard) and Pops (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) (Gary Anthony Williams). With Libe Barer as Casey, Lunella’s best friend and agent, completing the nice guy cast is Moon Girl’s agent. During the Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur panel, a new clip was shown in which Lunella and Casey assist her to stop a couple of robbers in her area.
In spite of the teenager’s amazing technological abilities, positive outlook, and desire for internet stardom, things don’t go as planned! Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are being kept under wraps until the 2023 debut of the series, but all the material shown so far shows how the series will have a distinct 2D animation style. The show is also primarily relying on the power of music to breathe life into a new part of New York City. It’s no surprise that Grammy Award-winning executive music producer Raphael Saadiq was hired to compose the original soundtrack for the animated series.
For Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, Diamond White collaborated with Saadiq on recording the original tunes. An interdimensional creature is known as the Beyonder (voiced by Laurence Fishburne) is the show’s main villain. The “Secret Wars” were a fictional event in which the Beyonder, a supervillain, forced superheroes and villains to battle for his entertainment. While we don’t know why the Beyonder would target Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, it will be exciting to watch one of Marvel Comics’ most powerful villains become the super-foe. duo’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is executive produced by Laurence Fishburne and Helen Sugland’s Cinema Gypsy Productions, Marvel Animation & Family Entertainment, and Emmy Award-winning producer Steve Loter. The show’s co-producers and story editors are Jeff Howard and Kate Kondell. Disney Channel and Disney+ will air Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur in 2023.
