The cast of Hulu’s next drama mystery, Black Cake, has been expanded. recurrent parts have been given to Faith Alabi, Ahmed Elhaj, and Lashay Anderson. According to Deadline, they’ll be joining Adrienne Warren, Mia Isaac, and Ashley Thomas. Charmaine Wilkerson wrote the novel that inspired the television series. With a plot spanning generations, Black Cake introduces us to a fugitive bride in the Caribbean who is suspected of murdering her husband, only to be washed away by the sea and presumed killed.
Eleanor Bennett passed dead in California after a long fight with illness 50 years later. She has left behind evidence of her travels from the Caribbean to the United States, as well as information on the long-since-disappeared bride. The children’s conviction in their familial heritage is shaken by these disclosures. Black Cake is sure to be a worthwhile series to follow as the plot progresses. All of the new actors joining the group will play recurring roles in the series’ early Jamaica timeframe. Bungy Pringle will be played by Anderson. Her character is a brilliant swimmer and a close friend of Covey, both of whom are aspiring to be world-famous swimmers of 1960s Jamaica.
When Bungy’s pal abruptly vanishes, she faces new difficulties. Pearl Thomas, played by Alabi, joins the cast as a new character who stays true to her promise to Covey’s mother to protect Covey through good times and bad. She also takes care of the Lyncook family. Gibbs Grant, played by Elhaj, has the impossible task of proving his undying love for Covey when his future is ruined as a result of their relationship. In addition to Thomas portraying Eleanor Bennett’s son Bryon Bennett, additional cast members will represent Eleanor Bennett’s mother, Eleanor Bennett.
Benny, played by Warren as Bryon’s estranged sibling, would be pushed to fulfil her mother’s request and expose long-hidden mysteries by her death. Covey will be played by Isaac. Marissa Jo Cerar, who also developed Women of the Movement, is behind Black Cake. Cerar collaborates on this project alongside Harpo Films, owned by Oprah Winfrey, and Kapital Entertainment, owned by Aaron Kaplan. Production will be overseen by Jessie Abbott. To replace Andrew Dosunmu (Where is Kyra?) as director of the pilot, Zetna Fuentes (This Is Us) has been tapped. With Winfrey and Carla Gardini of Harpo Films, Cerar is the showrunner and executive producer. Kapital Entertainment’s Brian Morewitz, Michael Lohmann, and Kaplan will serve as executive producers, with Emily Rudolf serving as a co-executive producer on the project. At this time, there is no set date for the start of the series.
