Even though Diana, Princess of Wales, died tragically and unexpectedly 25 years ago, her tale continues to captivate the globe. As a result of that life-changing event, several documentaries, films, and stage shows have sought to convey the narrative of the British queen and doting mother of two. To commemorate the Princess’s passing 25 years ago, HBO has announced that a new documentary, named The Princess, will be released on August 13th. Perkins, who has directed Black Sheep and Tell Me Who I Am, was in charge of the production of the film about Princess Diana’s life and death. Documentary maker Perkins will be in charge of examining the relationship between Charles, Prince of Wales and the Princess of Wales, which was notably rocked by adultery and coverups under his direction.
HBO’s latest deep dive promises to bring viewers back to a period when Diana and Charles’ love was in its infancy using historical audio and film recordings. From there, the film will follow the couple through their highs and lows, including the birth of their boys, as well as their bitter divorce. Even the media’s fixation with Diana will be examined in this book, as well as how the tale of her life was presented in many ways. Last but not least, viewers will see how the Princess’ terrible last moments were caused by the same intense media presence, as paparazzi swarmed her limousine in an attempt to grab their money shot.
To contemporary day, Perkins will demonstrate how little has changed, with photographers still going to any lengths for their material. As a co-producer, Vaness Tovell was involved in the production of The Princess alongside Simon Chinn, Jonathan Chinn, and Lightbox. Both Nancy Abraham and Lisa Heller have been brought on as executive producers for the film. This year’s best picture winner Spencer shows that the Diana mania isn’t going away any time soon with moviegoers still eager to learn more about the late princess’s life. The Princess will air on HBO on Saturday, August 13 at 8:00-9:50 p.m. ET/PT and will be streamed on HBO Max. Learn more about her upbringing, turbulent marriage, and tragic death when the show airs.
