According to an exclusive story from The Hollywood Reporter, it appears like Zackary Momoh will play the lead role in AMC’s new upcoming series The Driver. The 2014 British drama of the same name was the inspiration for the show. The show will premiere on both AMC and AMC+ in the fall of 2019 and filming is scheduled to begin in August of that year. Known for her roles in Doctor Sleep (2019) and Harriet (2019), Momoh, who will play the lead in the six-part version of The Driver, has emerged as a significant actress in recent years. Momoh was most recently featured in the 2021 HBO science fiction drama The Nevers.
He’s also been in Doctors and Holby City, among other shows. The period drama A United Kingdom, in which he co-starred with Rosamund Pike, was his feature film debut in 2016. Giancarlo Esposito will play the titular cab driver, whose life is turned upside down when he accepts a job as a chauffeur for a Zimbabwean criminal operating out of New Orleans. Esposito will portray the Zimbabwean mobster, while Momoh will portray him. When it comes to abusing the work of illegal immigrants, he is most known for his character. With Momoh, Esposito, and Malcomson, Paula Malcomson joins the cast as a regular.
Breaking Bad, where he played the fabulously cruel and distant Gus, a man who manages a chicken restaurant chain while also conducting a complicated meth operation, made Esposito a household name. Iconic television villains of all time have been produced by his character’s silent, cold and deliberate malice. In addition to Danny Brocklehurst and Sunu Gonera, the show’s creators and executive producers include Theo Travers, who will act as executive producer and showrunner. Original series creator Brocklehurst was also responsible for the three-part BBC series on which the remake is based, Original series features David Morrissey as a cab driver who gets entangled in a criminal organisation.
Esposito, Gonera, and Brocklehurst, the show’s co-creators, will serve as executive producers on the film. Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson, as well as Morrisey, Travers, Josh Kesselman, and Danny Sherman, will serve as executive producers on the project. AMC Studios, A+E Studios, and Thruline Entertainment are producing the series.
The show has yet to have a launch date specified.
