“Rap Sh!t” heads west for Season 2 with Issa Rae: Cast, Release Date & More

HBO Max will air the new comedy Rap Sh!t, starring Issa Rae, at the end of the month, but the show already appears to be gearing up for a second season. A few days before to its official release, Rae had referred to the film’s trailer as “the next great, must-see fun show” for summer. According to Deadline, Rap Sh!t has received a whopping $12.6 million in tax credits from the California Film Commission’s most recent round of tax credit awards. A new bill passed by California Governor Gavin Newsom has increased the state’s film and television tax credit programme, which aims to create jobs and bring entertainment companies to the state.

As a result of this award from the California Film Commission, Rap Sh!t season 2 production will move to California. As a result of these tax advantages, another programme will be moving production from Louisiana to California: Killing It. Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion) were best friends in high school in Miami, but they got alienated. The new HBO Max original Rap Sh!t will focus on Shawna and Mia’s journey. Eight-part miniseries follows the reunited duo as they create a rap group.

Rae explained to The Hollywood Reporter during the launch that she came up with the concept for the programme while still working on Insecure, according to the publication. I read these remarks about female rappers and how they rap about their vaginas,” Rae said. “I felt it was so unjust. I wanted to do this series on the music industry because I wanted to see what it was like to be a female rapper in today’s music industry.” As a result of this, I decided to begin narrating this narrative today. This time around, Rae stated that she had no intention of playing a role in the series, unlike in the past.

Osman described Rae as “the most clever, poised, insightful, attentive genius” while discussing their work together on the series. the greatest thing about it is that someone who looks like me might help me succeed.” The sitcom is executive produced by Rae, Montreal McKay, and Syreenta Singleton, who also acts as showrunner, under the banner of Hoorae Productions. All three executive producers from 3 Arts Entertainment will also be involved in the production of the film.
Rap Sh!t will air on HBO Max on July 21st at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
