The survival game Grounded from Obsidian Entertainment has joined the ever-growing roster of video game adaptations. Brent Friedman, writer of Star Wars: Clone Wars, and Brien Goodrich, director of cinematics for Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, will adapt the next animated TV series. The deadline was the first to report on the impending animated version of Grounded, and they revealed a few further facts about the project. It’s set in the same universe as the video game, and the programme will follow four friends who discover a “huge corporate plot endangering their whole community” after they find it across shrinking technology and are forced to battle the environment and predators.
Obsidian Entertainment and Xbox are working with Waterproof Studios/SC Productions, Kinetic Media, and Bardel Entertainment to adapt the game into a series. To be immersed in Grounded’s whimsical world is an experience we can’t wait to have. Tina Chow, CEO of Bardel Entertainment, tells Deadline that this alliance will expand on an already incredible voyage of discovery and adventure. Also, Deadline reported that Carl Whiteside, MD, WP/SC Productions, remarked, “The team at Obsidian have developed a wonderful universe that has already attracted attention from the gaming community.
For us, working with our wonderful partners to create an animated series is a dream come true.” Grounded is a survival game in which players take control of one of four individuals who have been reduced down to only two inches in the style of Honey I Shrunk The Kids and must now struggle to survive the perils of a suburban backyard. In order to complete the game’s tale, players may either play alone or with up to three companions, scavenging for supplies and fulfilling tasks along the way.
The early access version of the game was launched in July 2020, and the full launch is expected for September 2022. Following SEGA’s announcement that it plans to adapt Atlus games such as the Persona series into live-action films and television series, as well as the critical and commercial success of the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog films in 2020 and 2022, as well as Netflix’s Arcane, which was recently nominated for two Emmy Awards, comes this announcement of the Grounded adaptation.
One of the most anticipated video game adaptations, Grounded is the latest addition to an ever-growing list. The Fallout series is presently filming over at Prime Video, as is the Ghost of Tsushima picture, the Twisted Metal series at Peacock, and The Last Of Us series coming to HBO (which recently wrapped filming of its first season). At this time, no release date has been announced for the upcoming Grounded animated television series.
