Production on Sky Original comedy series Dreamland is already underway, and Variety has confirmed two additional cast members. Women’s connections that span generations and decades will be the focus of the new series. Comedian Lily Allen will make her TV debut on the comedy series. The British popstar and legend will have her first starring role on TV in this project. As Elizabeth Tailor in the film version of Caitlin Moran’s semi-autobiographical novel, How to Build a Girl, Allen made her feature film debut in 2019. Freema Agyeman, well known for her roles in Doctor Who and Law & Order: UK, joins the show’s roster.
On NBC’s medical drama New Amsterdam, Agyeman presently appears. It is based on Sharon Horgan’s 2017 Sky Arts short film, Dreamland. Her pregnant sister was holding a baby shower in Margate at the time of Robinson’s initial story. Robinson also revealed that she was pregnant, and she shared the news with her fans. The short’s high quality led to it being nominated for a BAFTA. A writers’ room has been put together by Horgan for Sky’s adaptation of his work. The series’ logline is as follows:
An examination of multigenerational female relationships and they’re (slightly) problematic family dynamics take place in Margate, a British beach resort. Since the publishing of her book in 2017, Horgan has contemplated making an adaptation. Announcing the series’ genesis in 2019, Merman, the production company she co-founded with Clelia Mountford, announced that it was ready “to test the idea with ensemble casting and see if it had legs. Now we’re developing it as a series.” We put in a lot of time and money for a small item, but we got so much more in return.” Filming has already begun on the six-part series in Kent.
Along with Kiell Smith-Bynoe and Gabby Best, the cast also features a special appearance by Samantha Bond and Aimee-Ffion Edwards. Horgan and Mountford will serve as executive producers on Dreamland, which will be produced by Alex Moody and Jane Bell for Sky. As well as being an associate producer, Emma Jane Unsworth will act as the show’s creator and showrunner. Unsworth, Best, Sharma Walfall, and Sarah Kendall make up the writing team for the film.
The release date of 2023 has been set for the film.
