The Artifice Girl has debuted a teaser video and poster ahead of its Fantasia Film Festival premiere later this month. To counteract internet predators, a new AI is created in the science fiction thriller. It was written and directed by Franklin Ritch, and features Lance Henriksen and other notable actors. It follows an internet vigilante who tries to safeguard children from online predators in The Artifice Girl. Cherry, a young girl, is a sophisticated artificial intelligence created by him in his endeavours.
The AI, on the other hand, grows in ways that its developer never expected it to. “Autonomy, tyranny, and what it actually means to be human” are some of the film’s alleged themes. One scenario is shown in the one-minute-long trailer. The teaser opens with writer and filmmaker Ritch (as the online vigilante) being interrogated by cops in an interrogation chamber. His assistance is needed in tracking down Cherry after he sees a photo of her. While a voice-over explains that Cherry does not exist and is not genuine, we see snippets of the movie. After a tease from an officer, “What is she?” the trailer stops.
The poster accompanying the video continues to raise the question of who and what Cherry is. Various computer screens cast a white light over a young girl’s figure, revealing her exposed wiring. The slogan “She’s not genuine.” is also included on the poster. She’s much more than that.” Ritch, Henriksen, David Girard, Tatum Matthews, and Sinda Nichols feature in The Artifice Girl. In addition to acting in and directing short films, this is Ritch’s feature film directorial debut.
Known for his roles in Aliens & Millennium in the 1990s, Henriksen has a long and distinguished career in film and television. Matthews and Girard are both making their feature film debuts in this flick. The English dub of the anime Bubblegum Crisis features Nichols’ voice. The Artifice Girl is co-produced by Paper Street Pictures and Ritch’s Last Resort Ideas and Blood Oath production banners alongside Aaron B. Koontz and Ashleigh Snead. The project’s executive producer is Peter Kuplowsky. The release date for The Artifice Girl has not yet been revealed, although it will premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 23.
