How does Prey for the Devil respond to COVID as it continues to evolve, disseminate and infect thousands of people? Imagine what will happen if there was a demonic epidemic like the virus pandemic we’ve been dealing with. If it happened, it would be a disaster! This is exactly what we see in the film’s new official trailer, which Lionsgate just dropped. St. Michael the Archangel School of Exorcism is shown in the video as a group of priests battling the forces of evil. As a priest, Sister Ann (Jacqueline Byers) is forbidden from performing exorcisms, but the seminary accepts her nevertheless because she has spent her whole life dealing with demonic possession. Sister Ann’s mother was possessed by a demon while she was a child, and the demon’s primary purpose was to leap into Ann’s body.
She continues to be chased by a demon, which bounces between people and seeks to take possession of Ann while she lives out her religion. Jump-scares abound in the video, which promises to keep viewers wondering as to who the devil will possess next as he urges Ann to let him inside her home. Christian Navarro (13 Reasons Why), Nicholas Ralph (All Creatures Great and Small),… Colin Salmon, Virginia Madsen, Lisa Palfrey, and the late Ben Cross will all feature in the film, which was originally named the Devil’s Light (Chariots of Fire). The Last Exorcism and 13 Sins director Daniel Stamm helmed the picture from a script by Robert Zappia, who also wrote the screenplay for Halloween H20: 20 Years Later.
Executive producers include David Brooks, Brad Kessell, Michael P. Flannigan, and Scott Niemeyer in addition to Paul Brooks, Todd Jones, Jessica Malanaphy, and Earl Richey Jones, who will serve as producers. Films about exorcisms may either be frightening or corny. Unless they are trying for campy, which we also enjoy, these films must convey the demonic possession at the heart of their plot without pushing it to the boundaries and turning it into something campy.
According to the film’s teaser trailer, Prey for the Devil’s creative team knows when to terrify us while simultaneously promoting a fascinating and enigmatic plot about why the devil wants to possess Sister Ann so much. Check out the trailer for Lionsgate’s Prey for the Devil’s grasp and discover if Sister Ann will be able to escape on October 28th.
