Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola’s long-awaited film, is finally getting the go-light to go into production. Trilith Studios in Fayetteville, Georgia, where filming will begin in November and last until March 2023, is chosen as the location for the film’s production. Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Jon Voight (Rainmaker), and Laurence Fishburne (Apocalypse Now) are all among the cast of the movie. It’s widely accepted that director Francis Ford Coppola is among the finest filmmakers of all time, having won an Academy Award for the work on The Godfather and Apocalypse Now. Megalopolis has been under construction since the 1980s.
In the aftermath of a bigger catastrophe, an architect attempts to rebuild New York City. Megalopolis, which has been in production for several years with a star-studded ensemble, has the potential to be a fitting farewell for Coppola’s illustrious career. With the current ensemble of Megalopolis, prior rumours stated that Oscar Isaac, Cate Blanchett, Jessica Lange, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Zendaya were in the running to feature in the movie. However, it’s not clear if they’re still involved with the project at this time. James Caan was reportedly rumoured to have been in the running for a role in the film before his terrible death. Coppola began filming more than 30 hours of second-unit footage in 2001, but the picture wouldn’t be completed until 2001 because of a variety of circumstances.
However, the September 11 attacks delayed the picture even further, necessitating a rethink of the entire production. After more than two decades, Francis Ford Coppola is finally bringing Megalopolis to the big screen after years of work. Coppola will self-finance the film in addition to writing and directing it, so he may finally realise his passion project. With Coppola in charge, Megalopolis might serve as a fitting farewell to one of the greatest directors of all time, whether or not the 40-year wait is worth it.
The film’s release date has yet to be determined because the movie is currently in pre-production.
