According to Deadline, which opens in a separate tab, Amazon Prime Video has decided not to renew the science fiction television show Night Sky for a second season after just airing the pilot episode. Franklin and Irene, a married couple who find a portal to a deserted planet in their backyard and have kept it secret for years in order to protect the world from outsiders, were portrayed on the show by Oscar-winning actors J.K. Simmons and Sissy Spacek, who played the roles of Franklin and Irene.
However, when a young guy named Chai Hansen enters their life, things begin to go awry, and they learn that there is more to this gateway than they had previously believed. Holden Miller was the one who came up with the idea for the programme, but Daniel C. Connolly, who had previously worked on series such as The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan, was the one who ran the production.
In May 2022, all eight episodes were made available on Prime Video, and the first episode was also streamed in space.
In addition, the first episode was made available in outer space. This represented the furthest distance from Earth that a television show has ever been transmitted, and it made Prime Video the first streaming service to distribute a movie or show directly into space. Prime Video was also the first to do so.
As per the review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, the programme has an average critics rating of 73 per cent, while the audience score is 81 per cent, which indicates that Night Sky was regarded warmly by both critics and casual viewers alike. The publication Deadline, on the other hand, attributes the series’ cancellation to its poor audience numbers and hefty production expenses.
The first season of Night Sky may be seen online right now.
