After just one season, HBO has decided to pull the plug on The Time Traveler’s Wife. After receiving confirmation that it will not continue, production on The Time Traveler’s Wife season 2 has been cancelled. The best-selling novel written by Audrey Niffenegger served as the inspiration for the production that was led by Rose Leslie and Theo James. The story focuses on a guy named Henry who suffers from a genetic disease that gives him the ability to randomly travel across time for brief periods of time.
In several settings over the course of his life, he eventually winds up marrying Clare. When the programme debuted on HBO, it was met with a variety of reactions, including some negative reviews from reviewers, but an overwhelming amount of positive feedback from spectators. The creator of the programme, Steven Moffat, has stated that the show was always planned to run for numerous seasons, despite the fact that the first season of the show concluded before the conclusion of the book.
Despite this, HBO has decided that they will not be continuing the show. “Although HBO will not be moving ahead with the second season of The Time Traveler’s Wife, it was our joy to collaborate with master storytellers Steven Moffat and [director] David Nutter,” they revealed in a statement via Deadline. “The Time Traveler’s Wife” has been cancelled (opens in new tab). “We owe them a great debt of gratitude for the attention, effort, and enthusiasm with which they adapted this much-loved novel. We want to express our gratitude to Theo and Rose, as well as the rest of our outstanding cast, for the sincere performances they gave, which thoroughly enthralled the audience.”
Author Audrey Niffenegger expressed her dissatisfaction with the decision to terminate the programme on her Twitter account after hearing the news. It opens in a new tab what she wrote: “I would want to extend my gratitude to @SWmoff, Rose, Theo, @realdavidnutter, and the whole cast, crew, and staff of The Time Traveler’s Wife for helping to create such a stunning and peculiar work. I’m sad that we won’t be working together on a second season, but I really enjoyed what you produced.”
The Time Traveler’s Wife was adapted into a feature film in 2009, starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, and has since been released in paperback.
