Tokyo Revengers chapter 257 was highly anticipated by readers wanting to learn more about Sanzu’s statement on the second time-leaper. When Kakucho was brought into the picture, things took a turn for the better. Kakucho has spent the previous two chapters reflecting on Izana and his significance in Kakucho’s life. An Izana hallucination in Tokyo Revengers 257 propels Kakucho into a noble but tragic path, and Takemichi loses yet another buddy in the process.
Sanzu stabbed Kakucho with his katana and began the train in the previous episode. The train had Takemichi and Kakucho on board. The former attempted to halt the train, while the latter engaged in combat with Sanzu and threw him off the train. After taking a point-blank hit with his visions, Sanzu pondered whether Takemichi was also a time traveller.
Takemichi’s best effort
It opens with Kakucho pointing out that given the train’s speed, it will tumble and smash a row of metal storage containers at the forthcoming junction. This will cause the same catastrophe that Takemichi saw in his vision. Takemichi, despite his best efforts, is unable to locate the train’s brakes and bring them to a halt. A serious wound in Kakucho’s abdomen is shown by Takemichi as Sanzu gloats from his position on the ground that it’s too late to intervene. When they find the brakes, Kakucho begs Takemichi to get off the train so he may save the others, but the whiny hero refuses to leave the train until he can.
Kakucho’s self-sacrifice was remarkable
Toman and Kantou members, including Chifuyu and Mitsuya, spot the train approaching and run for their lives as it collides with them. Kakucho, realising that Takemichi is constantly putting others before himself, tosses the latter off the train in an attempt to shield him from further harm. At first, he appears to be stuck in neutral, but a vision of Izana quickly helps him get his bearings. The fact that Kakucho is irresponsible serves as motivation for Izana to help him perform his best. Kakucho, in the final moments of his life, is able to halt the train just before it comes to a crossroads. Takemichi erupts into applause as the crisis is averted, while Sanzu remains in disbelief. Takemichi is overcome with joy as he approaches the compartment, but he soon realises that Kakucho has died.
Concluding remarks
Many fans were arguing over who the second time-leaper was, therefore Kakucho’s death came as a surprise to them. Readers had hoped that Wakui would not kill any more people in the current arc, even though it has been a possibility since Sanzu assaulted him with the katana. To make matters more bizarre, the circumstances surrounding Kakucho’s demise in Tokyo Revengers chapter 257 are very similar to those surrounding Baji’s death in the Valhalla arc.
Seeing Izana’s face added a poignant touch to this passage. As it turned out, Mikey had provoked Kakucho earlier in the story by referring to Izana by name in a way that now appeared unkind. That Mikey could see the ghosts of his fallen colleagues standing next to Takemichi at a critical juncture in the battle is reinforced by this development. The second time-leaper in Tokyo Revengers chapter 257 remained a mystery.
There’s still some disagreement over whether it’s Mikey or Hanma, but there’s also some speculation that it may be Sanzu himself. Hopefully, this will become clearer in the upcoming chapters. It will also be fascinating to observe how the S-62 Generation reacts to Kakucho’s death, given the circumstances.
