Last night, the annual BAFTA Games Awards concluded their eighteenth chapter with Sony’s Returnal taking home the major prize. This year’s BAFTA Games Awards reward “exceptional creative achievement within the worldwide gaming industry” during one of the industry’s most auspicious award nights. Housemarque’s rogue-like shooter was named the night’s best game, and it also took home three additional awards.
Winners in all categories at the BAFTA Games Awards 2022: Returnal, It takes Two, and more. This year’s E3 saw a lot of well-earned titles receive the attention they deserved. It was a huge night for indie games, with strong showings in all categories. Seven of the eighteen honours went to indie titles, including two for the popular Unpacking. In addition to the Best Narrative award, it also received the EE Game of the Year award, beating out It Takes Two and Deathloop. Chicory earned the Family prize for its colourful adventure, while Inscription, which created history at GDC 2022, was recognised for its game design.
Forza Horizon 5 was named the Best British Game at the British Game Awards. Since its publication in November of last year, it has gotten a very positive reception. Both animation and technical achievement categories were won by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. It’s been a long time coming for No Man’s Sky to finally receive the accolades it deserves. It’s been a long road to redemption for Hello Games, but they’ve done it brilliantly. Even more proof comes in the form of the Evolving Game award.
