Changes to Pokémon GO’s Mega Evolution have been said to be coming soon

The Mega Evolution system in Pokémon GO is reported to be getting a major overhaul shortly. Ten years after the concept was initially presented in the franchise’s Gen 6 games, Pokémon X and Y, the functionality was reintroduced to Pokémon GO in 2020. The number of Pokémon that may be Mega Evolved has steadily grown since its launch in Pokémon GO. In Pokémon GO, there are now 17 distinct Pokémon that may be Mega evolved. However, Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO are carried out in a different manner than in previous games in the franchise. Rather than utilising a Mega Stone to Mega evolve a qualifying Pokémon, players will need to expend enough Mega Energy to successfully trigger the Mega evolution.

It was tough to get Mega Energy when the concept was originally introduced in Pokémon GO, requiring players to complete Mega Raids and only awarding a little quantity of energy as a reward. Niantic, the game’s developer, later made changes to the Mega Evolution mechanism in order to make it more user-friendly. A new levelling system for Pokemon GO’s Mega Evolutions has been discovered by PokeMiners (via Nintendo Life) in the game’s code. New Mega Evolution level systems, which are comparable to the present buddy and Pokémon Buddy levels, will contain three levels that rise in importance based on the number of times a Pokémon has been mega evolved.

If you increase a Pokémon’s Mega Evolution level, you’ll be able to use less energy to Mega Evolve, as well as get more candy, XP, and XL Candy. Every time a Pokémon levelled up, the “cooldown” for Mega Evolution was lowered, allowing for more frequent use. Mega Evolving a Pokémon with Mega Energy, while the cooldown is still in force, is possible at a reduced cost based on the remaining time. Players will now be able to Mega Evolve their Pokémon in raid lobbies, it appears. The Mega Evolution mechanism will be improved to make it easier for players to Mega evolve their Pokémon, as well as to reward them with additional benefits.

Mega Raids and Timed Research activities that award Mega Energy will now have an added incentive thanks to the new system. This month’s Pokémon GO Mega Evolution is likely to be added, and datamined information suggests that the new system might be implemented at the same time. There has been no official word from Niantic on whether or not the Mega Evolution mechanism will be updated.
