Although little details about the game have been published since its announcement, fans are holding out hope that this year would bring more. As a direct rival to the classic skating series Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Skate has taken on its own life and developed its own following. When the remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 was released, Skate fans were hoping that the series would soon return to the forefront of their minds.
A teaser video was uploaded on the official Skate YouTube account in January 2021 after the new title was announced. EA and Full Circle were seen working closely with the Skate community to get the new game exactly right in the teaser. It also indicated that the game will include an open-world component. According to Playstation Lifestyle, some code found on Origin’s API led to the discovery of a tweet describing suspected playtesting of Skate 4. Skate playtesting is mentioned in the coding, as is the fact that the characters and stats acquired during the playtest will not be carried over to the final product.
The leaks also reveal that the game’s quality assurance has been ongoing for some time now. Skate 4 playtesting has been taking place for a few months previous to the discovery of this code, according to various reports. EA’s CEO did indicate earlier in 2022 that Skate 4 will be released sooner rather than later, but again, information was lacking in this storey. CEO also stated that the new game would focus heavily on user-generated material and that players may expect a wide range of exploring opportunities.
