It was recently confirmed by CD Projekt Red that the upcoming instalment in the long-running The Witcher series will not be produced in the REDengine. Cyberpunk 2077, which has just lately been made playable in the eyes of many fans, was likewise developed on this proprietary engine. The Witcher trilogy was the catalyst for CD Projekt Red’s rise to popularity. The third game in the series surpassed the prior two in terms of popularity and overall favourable feedback despite being well-received by many.
Some technical issues plagued all three games in this series, despite the fact that they were well praised for their professional aesthetics and excellent storytelling. In Cyberpunk 2077, which had a dismal launch due to its numerous bugs and performance concerns, the situation was duplicated and amplified. Though most of the game’s flaws have been addressed, some gamers are cautious about CD Projekt Red’s development cycle because of the planned Cyberpunk 2077 DLC. To their delight, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will no longer be powered by the REDengine, according to the game’s official announcement.
The Witcher Twitter account announced the upcoming game, along with the news that the company will use Unreal Engine 5 and collaborate with Epic Games on it. According to a press statement from CD Projekt Red’s PR Director Radek Grabowski, they decided to team up with Microsoft because they were interested in getting their hands on cutting-edge technology and getting their feet wet with the future game’s technological underpinnings. The REDengine will continue to power future Cyberpunk 2077 additions. There may have been a correlation between Cyberpunk 2077’s numerous flaws and performance issues, but CDPR also said that Cyberpunk will continue on REDengine.
However, despite its often amazing visuals, when it was first released, the game was riddled with faults. Furthermore, it appeared that players who played on anything but the most powerful PCs were plagued by performance issues. CD Projekt Red’s upcoming Witcher game may be more polished and optimised if it uses the fifth version of a commonly used games engine. Obviously, the CD Projekt Red and Epic Games cooperation has piqued the interest of gamers. CD Projekt Red has dismissed rumours that its upcoming Witcher game will be an Epic Store exclusive in response to several of the company’s Tweets. Only time will tell how this collaboration with Epic will turn out since it appears that the game is still in its early stages of production.
