According to a new leak, Fortnite players may soon be filling Mary Jane’s shoes. If this rumour is true, MJ will be joining her long-time love interest Spider-Man, who has recently been at the focus of a lot of Fortnite content.
Aside from being one of the most successful multiplayer video games of all time, Fortnite is likely best recognised for its partnerships with singers, actresses, sports, and other celebrities, as well as crossovers with some of the most popular intellectual properties.
For a long time, the battle royale game has had a tight relationship with Marvel, giving a plethora of buying and unlockable skins based on the company’s vast cast of heroes and villains. Fortnite has also modelled several of its in-game events on Marvel movies and comic books, with the Infinity War mash-up being one of the most popular instances back in 2018. With Spider-Man being as famous as he is, it seemed only logical that he would join Fornite, with prior leaks indicating that villains such as Green Goblin will be joining him. Following the announcement of the Green Goblin’s involvement, a fresh rumour suggests that Mary Jane Watson, another significant figure in the Spider-Man mythos, will be joining the game.
This leak, which was published by GameSpot, is thin on facts but comes from well-known leakers like FNBRintel, lending some credibility to the allegation. The information was leaked by FNBRintel’s tweet, which was accompanied by a purported screenshot of the game, which included a red-haired Mary Jane wearing a Spidey-themed t-shirt. As with any leak, take it with a grain of salt and wait to hear from an official Fortnite source. Having said that, there is reason to suppose that this information is correct.
Aside from the fact that several Fortnite leaks have proven to be true, including the recent news about Assassin’s Creed’s Ezio Auditore joining the game, there is simply no reason to believe that Fortnite would not add such an iconic character from a franchise with which it already collaborates heavily. If and when Mary Jane appears in the game, it will add to the Spider-Man material already available. Fortnite has already introduced a Michelle Jones skin based on Zendaya’s interpretation of the character, so fans of either MJ may soon have alternatives.
