One particularly impressive fan project involves converting the classic Pokemon Red and Blue games into a 3D world, which is sure to hit old-school fans right in the nostalgic feels. The Pokemon series just celebrated its 25th anniversary, and it is difficult to overstate the magnitude of what the franchise has accomplished in that time. Currently, there have been more than one hundred different Pokemon video games, 901 different Pokemon species, dozens of movies and television episodes to watch, and the current generation games, such as Pokemon Sword & Shield, have sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
Over the years, Pokemon fans have devoted countless hours to attempting to capture every single one of the creatures on a variety of different platforms. There’s something for everyone when it comes to the Pocket Monsters, whether it’s the popular free mobile game Pokemon Go that has taken the world by storm, collecting Pokemon Trading Cards that have skyrocketed in value over the years, or putting hundreds of hours into the latest remakes of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. A fan of the brand chose to update the original games with a more contemporary perspective, while many others have been eating the information from the franchise.
According to GameRant, CodyCantEatThis, an incredibly talented 3D artist and YouTuber, recently started their own fan project, which has grown into a 3D recreation of the Kanto region from the Pokemon Red and Blue games. CodyCantEatThis has spent the past year recreating popular 2D games from a 3D perspective. Following the completion of 3D versions of famous Sonic, Mario, and Legend of Zelda games, they decided to begin work on their presently unfinished 3D recreation of the Pokemon Red and Blue video games.
Although the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl remakes are a more modern take on the original DS games, they are not a complete 3D replica, as some fans had hoped when the games were released last year. Each hamlet found across the Kanto region, as well as gym leaders, goods, and even the ability to encounter and capture wild Pokemon, are all included in the project. This is an incomplete fan project, and the artist is well aware that releasing a 3D Pokemon remake will attract the attention of Nintendo’s legal team. An increase in the number of subscribers to CodyCantEatThis has resulted from their amazing work in the creation of 3D environments. Fans are excited to see the project progress further, and they hope that this work will lead to more profitable opportunities for the great 3D artist.
Over the years, a number of impressive fan projects have delighted the gaming community, but Nintendo has been reticent to allow fans to reproduce its intellectual property. Using the Unity game engine, CodyCantEatThis has replicated many of their fans’ favourite games, and their work in creating 3D worlds can be seen on their YouTube channel. For the time being, though, fan creations such as this remade version of Pokemon Red & Blue will remain inaccessible to the general public.
