Hundreds of Skyrim places have tightly sealed traps, doors, and chests with goods that can be used to augment the Dragonborn’s armory. While lockpicking may be a straightforward process for some, master locked items are a far more difficult challenge, and players who intend to try these locks should level up Skyrim’s lockpicking skill.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released in 2011, and it was the fifth installment in the long-running action role-playing series set in the high fantasy fictional universe of Tamriel. Due to its free-form gameplay and comprehensive open-world, which allowed for practically infinite exploration, the title quickly became one of the most awarded and critically acclaimed games of all time upon its debut. Because of its positive reaction, the game became Bethesda’s most valued possession, and it has been re-released on nearly every platform in the last decade. This includes the Nintendo Switch, VR, and, most recently, next-generation platforms with the Skyrim: Anniversary Edition, which bundles the popular RPG with new material, features, and upgrades.
Users powerofthee and wSkeever (via PC Gamer) have made new mods that entirely remodel and modify Skyrim’s lock screen variations to give players a refreshing new take on lockpicking, as seen on Nexus Mods. When Security Overhaul Lock Variations and Security Overhaul Add-Ons are downloaded, they will introduce players to new lock designs, each with its own unique animation and sound. These variant designs will better depict Skyrim’s numerous races dependent on geography, and players familiar with The Elder Scrolls literature will be able to tell which race a specific lock belongs to based on aesthetic representation. These skins will range from naturally exotic to ominous and gloomy and can be used to improve immersion as well as revitalize gameplay.
Skyrim’s new lock variations, with the exception of the brand-new anniversary edition, maybe downloaded on any version via the Skyrim Script Extender. A new patch for the current version of Skyrim has crippled mods and rendered obsolete the popular program that allows them to be installed. If they remove some of the game’s new content, interested users can downgrade the Anniversary Edition to the Special Edition.
Modders have injected new life into Skryim, introducing players to never-before-seen item varieties that will spice up new and ongoing adventures. Skyrim’s new lock variations are only a few of the thousands of mods available to help the game feel fresh again, and despite Skyrim’s age, it appears that modders aren’t stopping now, despite the title being a decade old.
