Gun Interactive has confirmed that Friday the 13th star Kane Hodder would appear in their The Texas Chainsaw Massacre multiplayer game. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was one of the Game Awards surprises, but virtually little is known about the game as of this writing.
As with Gun Interactive and IllFonic’s Friday the 13th: The Game, this new Leatherface-starring project takes influence from the original 1974 Texas Chain Saw Massacre film, which is why the title of the game is misspelled “chainsaw” instead. Marketing materials suggest that this experience will draw some inspiration from real-life events relating to the gruesome crimes of Ed Gein, a Wisconsin serial killer. An interesting domain name that linked to Gun Interactive’s website spurred speculation that Gun Interactive was working on an entry in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series a few months ago. Even more, details are emerging now that the cat is out of the bag.
Hodder, widely known for portraying Jason Voorhees in various Friday the 13th films, will play Leatherface in Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. “I wanted to make it reminiscent of Gunner [Hansen’s] performance,” Hodder said in an exclusive interview with Fangoria. As a stunt double for Leatherface in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, Hodder took on the role of the killer in 1974. No one should be surprised that Hodder leaped at the opportunity to reprise his role as Jason in Gun Interactive’s upcoming Friday the 13th: The Game.
Adding Kane Hodder to Gun Interactive’s roster is a great accomplishment. As a result, it will be intriguing to watch how his performance in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre-themed multiplayer game will translate to the digital realm.
Many asymmetrical multiplayer games featuring horror iconography have been attempted, and this one is no exception. Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight, which had a guest appearance by Michael Myers in an October 2016 update, served as something of a springboard in 2016. (The following year, Leatherface joined the ranks of killers.) Even though it only had a brief run of popularity, Friday the 13th: The Game was a game-changer in 2017. Despite a tepid reception, Predator: Hunting Grounds by IllFonic took asymmetric multiplayer to new heights.
