In Halo Infinite, developer 343 Industries is bringing back the ability to replay story campaign missions, but it’s unclear when this will be available. Following a long and controversial development cycle that saw Halo Infinite delayed for a whole year, the next entry in the long-running Xbox sci-fi FPS franchise eventually premiered in full earlier this week. The plot of Halo Infinite has received a lot of positive feedback so far, with critics praising it for being both a good starting point for newcomers and a satisfying return for old Halo aficionados.
However, one aspect of Halo Infinite’s story campaign that hasn’t received as much love is the fact that players would only be able to complete missions once. Players can gather cosmetic items in the areas where these missions take place, but the only method to replay the missions is to restart the game from the beginning. 343 Industries highlighted Halo Infinite’s new-to-the-series open-world gameplay as the primary reason for the choice, but fans are still hoping for a means to replay Master Chief’s latest adventure without having to start over. Fortunately, this may soon change.
In a recent interview with Stevivor, 343 Industries associate creative director Paul Crocker addressed the lack of a story mission replay function in Halo Infinite, according to PCGamesN. He said that 343 is working on adding a mission pick function to the game at a later point, but he couldn’t predict when that would occur. Crocker also discussed the difficulties of creating an open-world game as compared to Halo’s usual linear style, saying that his team’s approach to choosing which features would be included with Infinite at launch was to “create a better game and add it later.”
Back in August, 343 stated that Halo Infinite would ship without the fan-favorite campaign co-op or level-designing Forge Mode. However, the company has since reassured players that these features would be included next year. This disappointment hasn’t dampened the positive response to Halo Infinite’s story campaign or the game’s multiplayer components, which were released earlier this month under a free-to-play approach. Only hours after its multiplayer launch, Halo Infinite smashed Xbox records for the most concurrent players on Steam, and the only significant criticism thus far, other than the aforementioned missing features, is the game’s excessive dependency on microtransactions.
Given the positive response to Halo Infinite’s story campaign thus far, it’s hardly unexpected that many fans desire to relive aspects of Master Chief’s war against the Banished on the Zeta Halo battlefield. While no date has been set for when this feature will be implemented to Halo Infinite, 343 Industries has informed players that it will be available soon.
