Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, a popular 2D fighting game developed by Atlus, will be released on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam platforms in 2022. Originally released in Japanese arcades in 2013, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a sequel and updated version of Persona 4 Arena, both in terms of plot and gameplay. It was later transferred to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2014. Ultimax, developed by Arc System Works, the firm behind the immensely successful fighting game series Guilty Gear, received critical acclaim for its enhanced gameplay and was hailed as a step up over its predecessor.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will have a modern re-release on March 17, 2021, as part of the 25th-anniversary celebrations of Official ATLUS West, which was announced during The Game Awards 2021. In addition to the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam platforms, pre-orders for the PC version will be made available shortly as well. As a result of Arc System Works’ current support for older games with the functionality, there is a significant probability that the game will receive rollback netcode for its online play.
It was hinted at during Persona’s 25th-anniversary celebration announcement that a new game or remaster will be released, as disclosed in a note from the publisher, which revealed that the year-long campaign would bring about various exciting announcements for fans around the world. Even though many people were expecting Persona 5 on PC or an exclusive Persona 3 remake, the anniversary campaign is scheduled to last through Fall 2022, announcing another title possible. Until then, gamers can soon return to the Shadow World with Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, in which the team competes in a combat tournament to determine who will be champion.
