For the first time, Epic Games has confirmed that the development of Fortnite is shifting to Unreal Engine 5, which is the latest iteration of the company’s immensely popular game engine. It’s been a while since the last chapter of Fortnite’s free-to-play battle royale was released, but the game has undergone a major overhaul since then. A new feature in Fortnite, first-person mode, allows players to use their camera to shoot down a new weapon from Chapter 3, which Epic Games plans to develop in the future. Spider-web-shooters Man’s have also been added to the game, allowing players to slide to increase their speed and escape enemy fire, as well as traversing the title’s new area. For the 1995 first-person shooter Unreal, Tim Sweeney founded Epic Games and created the Unreal Engine as a sophisticated real-time 3D production tool for high-profile games. A multitude of genres and sectors have adopted it since its 1998 introduction, most notably the film and television business, in order to create virtual sets. The Game Awards last year featured the unveiling of the latest Unreal Engine version for ninth-generation platforms, as well as a preview of its next-generation technology via a PlayStation 5 tech demo. There will be an open-source version available in 2022 with the ability for developers to incorporate high-detailed photographic source material to construct immersive worlds for gamers.
To make Fortnite the first game to use Unreal Technology 5, Epic Games posted on the official Unreal Engine Twitter account (via PC Gamer) that it has changed its development to version 5 of the engine. With the latest confirmation from the studio, the inclusion of new systems and features added to the battle royale game with its most recent huge update is more feasible than ever. New weather and environmental effects were shown in the Chapter 3 overview trailer, including lightning and tornadoes that can draw players into them. It appears that just log destruction made it into the chapter, but it’s possible that more will appear in future seasons since that the popular game is running on Unreal Engine 5.
Tim Sweeney indicated that Fortnite would begin using the Unreal Engine 5 in mid-2021 to perform things that were previously impossible. Battle Royale’s next generation will be brighter thanks to the engine, even though it’s been delayed. The new engine’s log-destruction function is already being used by players to quickly span lakes with logs.
A major improvement in gameplay and visuals is predicted beyond Chapter 3 of Fortnite’s use of Unreal Engine 5, which has only recently been implemented in the game. It may not be the most visually impressive battle royale game, but the new engine might make it one of the most immersive and detailed experiences on the market despite its lack of visual flair.
