Cyrax’s faceplate is blown apart in a spectacular fan animation that has drawn the attention of the game’s creator, Ed Boon. It was Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon who recently released some fan art depicting Cryax’s faceplate blowing apart and revealing the human being behind the icy machine. A frequent presence on social media, Boon teases fans about the next DLC characters to join the long-running fighting game genre and gives cryptic indications about upcoming projects from NetherRealm Studios. He’s also shared important Mortal Kombat facts, such as the origins of Scorpion’s “Get Over Here” slogan.
Cyrax, a cyborg member of the frigid Lin Kuei assassin clan who initially appeared in Mortal Kombat 3 in 1995, is one of many Mortal Kombat characters Ed Boon helped create. One of Cyrax’s first assignments as LK-4D4 was the hunt for and elimination of a former Lin Kuei member known as Sub-Zero, who had defected to the Outsiders and joined the Outsiders’ ranks. At some point, Cyrax would reclaim his humanity and join the Special Forces in their effort to save Earthrealm. Cyrax’s last playable appearance was in Mortal Kombat X as part of the DLC character Triborg alongside fellow robots Sektor and Cyber Smoke, where he would have a small role in the storey mode.
FlavioLuccisano, a well-known freelance artist, created a stunning fan animation of Cyrax earlier today. While the music from Mortal Kombat 3’s Rooftop stage plays in the background, Cyrax’s faceplate is blown apart, revealing his human face underneath. Other Mortal Kombat characters drawn by FlavioLuccisano include the likes of Reptile and Johnny Cage, as well as the likes of Cyrax.
NetherRealm has just announced that they are no longer adding new material to Mortal Kombat 11, which has fanned claims that they are already working on Mortal Kombat 12. MK 12’s possible roster of playable characters is already being discussed by fans, with some desiring to see as many characters as in previous games like Mortal Kombat Armageddon and others seeking WWE legends Mick Foley and Kane as guest characters.
To put it another way, given the timeline-altering events of the Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath DLC, Cyrax might return as a playable character in either his robotised or humanised form. Mortal Kombat fans like FlavioLuccisano, who have drawn and animated some of the game’s most recognisable characters, are a joy to behold, and it’s even better to see their work recognised by the developers who created the game.
