Made in Abyss Returns With Season 2 Trailer

The new teaser for Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun is introducing a few new faces to fans of the anime. Delvers rejoice as a brand-new trailer for Season 2 of Made in Abyss has been revealed.

The preview for the upcoming season opens with a fresh group of adventurers who are hunting for a Golden City. The trailer introduces four new characters to the series: Vueko, Belaf, Wazukyan, and Faputa. The last scene of the video is a short clip of the series’ original trio of Riko, Reg and Nanachi, who are taking a light-hearted vacation from their quest.

The second season of the show will be entitled Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun and is a direct sequel to the series’ third movie, Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul. Animation studio Kinema Citrus (Rising of the Shield Hero, Barakamon) will once again handle the production of the series, which is presently set for a 2022 launch window.

The plot follows Riko, an orphaned girl who lives in a village constructed around an enormous, enigmatic pit known as The Abyss. The immense pit attracts numerous adventurers, known as Delvers, who explore The Abyss’ depths in the hopes of recovering relics and treasure left behind by an old civilisation. After receiving a letter from her mother, who fell into The Abyss years before and was assumed to be dead, Riko sets off on a trip to reach the bottom of the Abyss and find her family.

The original Made in Abyss manga was created by Tsukushi Akihito and was originally published on Takeshobo’s Web Comic Gamma. It was later converted into a 13-episode anime in 2017, which was followed up by two compilation films that recreated the events of the series in 2019, and an all-new sequel film released in 2020.

Fans and critics have commended the show for its high-quality animation and a great soundtrack, with both elements being considered as important to communicating the beauty and the terror that is located within the titular Abyss.

The first season of Made in Abyss is available for streaming on Netflix, Prime Video and HiDive. The three theatrical releases in the series, Made in Abyss: Journey’s Dawn, Made in Abyss: Wandering Twilight and Made in Abyss the Movie: Dawn of the Deep Soul, are also available exclusively on HiDive.
