Taz Skylar, who was recently cast in the part of One Piece’s chef Sanji, has shared a video of himself practising a variety of kicks in preparation for his upcoming performance.
When it comes to practising for his role as fighting chef Sanji in the upcoming live-action One Piece series, Taz Skylar says he hasn’t been skipping leg day.
Skylar shared a short video clip on his Instagram Stories, in which the actor can be seen practising a wide array of different kicking styles in various positions. Acrobatic manoeuvres such as handstands and spins will be performed by Skylar as the Straw Hat Pirates’ cook, Sanji. Sanji is known for his unique “Black Leg Style” of fighting, which involves the tea-loving pirate attacking with a barrage of powerful kicks and only using his hands to perform acrobatic manoeuvres such as handstands and spins.
Skylar was one of the five performers that have been cast in Netflix’s live-action remake of One Piece, which will premiere in 2019. The anime will also feature Iaki Godoy, who previously appeared in Go, Youth! and Who Killed Sara?, as the stretchy protagonist Monkey D. Luffy, as well as Sonny Chiba’s son, Mackenyu (Rurouni Kenshin: Final Chapter, Chihayafuru, Pacific Rim: Uprising), who will portray the swordsman Roronoa Zoro. Nami, the team’s selfish navigator, will be played by Emily Rudd (Fear Street, Hunters), and Usopp will be played by Jacob Romero Gibson (Greenleaf, All Rise), both of whom are actors.
Steve Maeda (Lost, X-Files) and Matt Owens (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) will serve as the series’ writers and showrunners, with Maeda having previously worked on Lost and X-Files. Eiichiro Oda, the original creator of One Piece, will serve as executive producer for the live-action adaptation of the manga series. It is also well-known that Oda was intimately involved in the creation of the anime adaptation of his manga, and it looks that he will be similarly active in Netflix’s reinvention of his work. “I mean, it’s been a few years since it was first announced, right? I understand your frustration! Nonetheless, we have been making solid progress throughout the process. Trying to collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds is difficult!, “Oda stated this following the announcement of the show’s cast. “However, it is just this process that has the potential to produce something extraordinary! It was only after countless consultations with people from all around the world that we came to this decision. These are the individuals who will serve as our Straw Hat Pirates! It will take a little longer for us to complete this concert, but we will do everything we can to ensure that it is a success and that everyone around the world will love it!”
Oda’s One Piece was first published in 1994, making it 24 years old. Earlier this year, the manga celebrated the publication of its 1000th chapter as well as the publication of its 100th collected book. The anime series, which first aired in 1999, will premiere its 1000th episode on November 20th, marking a significant milestone in the series’ history. In total, 490 million copies of the series have been printed and distributed worldwide, making it the best-selling manga series of all time by a large margin.
