A new photograph has emerged, showing Gon and Killua using their combined powers to create the number ten, shared on social media.
The image was unveiled to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Hunter X Hunter anime series’ premiere in 2011, which lasted for 148 episodes and closed in 2014.
This was the second time Yoshiro Togashi’s long-running shonen manga was adapted into a television series. After adopting all of the manga’s accessible material for the series, the original anime aired from 1999 to 2001 before being cancelled.
The Vampire Dies in No Time’s Hiroshi Kojima directed the second series, produced by Madhouse, the animation company behind Death Note and One-Punch Man. Original marketing for the 2011 series touted how closer it was to Togashi’s manga than the previous one.
First appearing in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1998, Hunter X Hunter follows Gon, a young boy who discovers that his father disappeared while serving in the Hunter Association.
This organization recruits gifted individuals and assigns them various fantastical missions, such as tracking mythological beasts, searching for lost treasure, exploring uncharted regions of the world, and locating wanted criminals. When Gon discovers that his father is still alive, he vows to become a Hunter and discover what happened to his parents.
The manga series is still running strong, although it has been on a sabbatical since 2006, with years separating new chapters in some instances.
The series has been officially on hiatus since its final new chapter was published in November of last year. Because of Togashi’s persistent and debilitating back issue, the series has taken repeated lengthy interruptions. Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchi, the brains behind Sailor Moon.
After several years of hiatus, the series is still one of the most well-known shonen manga series worldwide, with more than 80 million copies sold as of November 2019.
Manga artists such as Masashi Kishimoto of Naruto and Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, who recently had to put his manga on hold owing to health reasons, acknowledge the series as an influence.
